If the phrase ‘snow-guarantee’ had not already been coined, it probably would have to be invented for Obertauern. From the beginning of November until the beginning of May you simply do not have to worry about snow, but just know it will be there as a matter of course as part of the special Obertauern winter wonderland. 26 lifts and 100 km of pistes await you – and as if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a fantastic winter panorama, many traditional ski huts serving food, and last but not least an après ski scene known and renowned far beyond the borders of the country. Every winter new followers try this terrific skiing and natural experience far away from the normal slopes, with the final reward of a dream descent on feather-soft powder snow. But be aware, there’s always a small risk of avalanche and it’s often difficult to predict. Good training and experience are therefore essential to minimize this risk.
The origin of skiing... Originally from Norway and named after the region where the skiing pioneer Sondre Nordheim invented this swing-style more than 100 years ago. You kneel into the mountain-facing ski by lifting up the heel of the rear foot thus pushing forward the valley-facing ski. Skiing with this free-heel-method guarantees all winter sports enthusiasts a unique skiing experience where carving, moguls, powder, and more is possible.
