Our Spa and Sporthotel boast a long and proud tradition. The hotel has been family-owned with one thing always being our top priority: to make the days spent at Gründlers some of the best of the year for our guests.
In 1963, the Weissenbacher Family, whose main enterprise was the Gasthof Stegerbräu in Radstadt, built and opened a hotel named Sporthotel Stegerbräu. The 3-star hotel had 50 beds and was successfully run by the family. Guests came mainly from Germany and Austria.
In 1970, the large indoor pool and a sauna system were built and all rooms were equipped with en-suite bathrooms.
In 1988 the family’s daughter, Maria Weissenbacher, and her husband Robert Gründler took over the family business and gradually adapted this well-known establishment into a contemporary hotel with high quality restaurant cuisine, wonderful holiday programs and activities for guests, family-friendly facilities, and all this while maintaining a homey and warm atmosphere. The hotel was re-named Sporthotel Weissenbacher.
In 1994 the romantic Turmstüberl Bar was added and the large pool patio adapted with a BBQ and poolside dining.
The hotel was extended in 2003 and became a four-star hotel with the new name Gründlers Spa & Sporthotel. Additions at this time were: the "Rosengarten" Chalet with 22 beds and a rose garden, 2 elegant restaurants, panoramic restaurant terrace, and the large spa oasis with various saunas and steam baths, massage and beauty studios. Today, guests come from nearly every corner of the globe to stay at Gründlers.
In 2014 "Gründlers Sporthotel & Spa" was bought by the Lakenmacher Family from Houston, Texas and management duties assumed by Andrea and Michael Schnell, both locals from the Salzburg area. While maintaining the "Spirit of Gründlers", new updates are being implemented to further improve the overall experience for our guests. The Schnells bring to the Hotel not only their vast experience, but a passion and attention to detail.
2017 the family Schnell quit their management and fulfilled their dream in Zell am See. Former F&B manager Mr. Dejan Dobovicnik faced this task and took over the management.
